Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the strength of the dog type clutch and to completely eliminate the waste of material by a method wherein the molding of the inversely slanted dogs of the dog type clutch mechanism is performed without interrupting the line of flow of the metallurgical structure of the material for the dogs, that is, without resorting to a cutting process.
CONSTITUTION: In case where a gear wheel 1 with the clutch having the inversely slanted dogs 2 is molded, an intermediate molded clutch product 3 having dogs each in the form of nonslanted columnar body 4 is set within a mold 5 for forming the inversely slanted dogs. The product 3 is then press-fitted into the mold 5 by the application of pressure P from above the product as indicated by the arrow to thereby mold the inversely slanted dogs 2 of predetermined dimensions. In this case, the dimensions of each of the nonslanted columnar bodies 4 are determined in the following manner in consideration of a possible increase in thickness at the time of finish molding: The height of each of the nonslanted columnar bodies 4 is made somewhat greater than that of each of the inversely slanted dogs 2 and the width thereof is made equal to the minimum width B' of the latter, whereby the columnar dog sections 4 are deformed by compressing them within the mold 5 with the result that the inversely slanted dogs each having an expanded head 2h of a desired width B" is molded.
