Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the difference between an actually possible distance of travel and the indicated value on a cruising range meter by a device wherein the current travel distance per unit fuel consumption and an average travel distance per unit fuel consumption are measured independently and the travel distance per unit fuel consumption to be multiplied by the remained amount of fuel can be selected corresponding to the conditions of travel. CONSTITUTION:A vehicle speed detector 18 detects a vehicle speed by calculating the number of pulses generated from an oscillator 17 for an interval of pulses from a distance sensor 1. When the detected vehicle speed is not less than a predetermined value, a switch for selecting the travel distance per unit fuel consumption is turned to the side of the current travel distance per unit fuel consumption. When the detected vehicle speed is not greater than a predetermined value, the switch is turned to the side of an average travel distance per unit fuel consumption. A timer counter 19 issues a command allowing a dividing unit 15 to calculate the travel distance per unit fuel consumption at a certain interval in time, so that the current travel distance per unit fuel consumption is calculated from the contents of distance and fuel counters 12, 14. From values on distance and fuel counters 2,4 being reset by a manual switch 10, the average travel distance per unit fuel consumption is obtained by a dividing unit 7. Then, the cruising range is calculated by multiplying a value on a remained fuel counter 6 to the travel distance per unit fuel consumption at a multiplying unit 8.
