Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:Compounds of formula I', formula I" and I'''(Ar is aromatic group; R1 is H, alkyl, or aryl; R2 is alkyl or aryl; X' is benzyloxy or azido; X" is OH or amino; X''' is acylamino).
EXAMPLE: 1-(1-Methoxycarbonylbenzyl)-3-azido-4-phenylazetidin-2-one.
USE: Raw material for the preparation of dipeptide.
PROCESS: Reaction of a Schiff base of formula II with a compound of formula III (Y is halogen or OH) in a solvent such as benzene, in the presence of a tert-amine such as triethylamine at -78W+100°C, affords a compound of formula I', whih can be converted to a compound of formula I" by the hydrogenative decomposition in a solvent such as methanol, in the presence of a catalyst such as Pd black at room temp. W150°C. A compound of the formula I" can be prepared by reacting a compound of formula I" wherein X" is amino with an acid chloride or an acid anhydride in a solvent such as benzene at -30°C Wroom temp.
