Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the lowering of pH at the initial fermentation for immediately active fermentation of methane by mixing an organic material finely crushed with water and methane fermentating sludge to form a stock liquid and maintaining it at a given temperature bringing CO2 into contact therewith.
CONSTITUTION: An organic material is crushed so finely as to be less than 3mm in the average grain size particularly with the particles of 2.5mm or less accounting for 50% or more and those of 1.5mm or less 40% or more. The stock liquid, a mixture of water and methane fermentating sludge is filled into a fermentation tank 1. This fermentation tank 1 is housed in a thermostatic container 3 maintained with the range of 50W60°C (particularly 52W55°C) to effect a methane fermentation. At this point, the upper space 4 of the tank 1 is filled with CO2 gas to eliminate oxygen so that the surface of the material liquid 2 is always brought into contact with the CO2 gas during the methane fermentation. Methane gas generated is trapped into a trapping tank 5.
