Erasing mode E is set at the write end, and the part of a prescribed length, for example, a length corresponding to the interblock gap, namely, the part shown by (f) is erased, and the magnetic tape is stopped. Next, the magnetic tape is rewound as shown in (d), and the magnetic tape is driven as shown in (e) to read write information, and error check is performed.
