Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve precision and to shorten the time of etching by making V grooves for mounting optical fibers and a knock pin on a silicon substrate by anisotropic etching and by reducing the extent of etching for the knock pin. CONSTITUTION:On silicone substrate 8, V grooves for optical fibers 71-7n and a V groove for knock pin 11 are formed by anisotropic etching. When through hole is formed by deepening the groove for knock pin 11 until the reverse surface of substrate 8, auxiliary substrate 13 having a groove formed at the position corresponding to the through hole is bonded and fixed to the reverse side of substrate 8. After the groove is deepened at a prescribed depth, the groove is deepened by grinding its bottom surface. In either method, the extent of anisotropic etching is small. Consequently, the precision of the multicore optical fiber connector is improved the time of the etching can be shortened.
