Abstract
PURPOSE:To automatically make a groove of uniform width, depth and position on the total periphery of a lens independently of its shape, by providing a lens position adjuster and a lens revolution speed controller. CONSTITUTION:When the point of contact A of a lens 17 with a diamond cutter 41 deviates from the fulcrum of a lens rest 26, the rest inclines right and left. The inclination is detected by a light projector 42 and a light receiver 42'. A differential amplifier 52 is operated depending on the detected value to rotate a DC servomotor 30 right and left. As a result, the lens 17 is horizontally moved so that the contact point A is located just over the diamond cutter 41. The revolution speed of another DC servomotor 9 is increased or decreased depending on the output of the differential amplifier 52 to make the circumferential velocity of the rotating lens 17 uniform independently of the shape of the lens 17. A uniform groove is thus machined by the cutter 41 on the entire periphery of the lens 17 as it is located just over the diamond cutter.
