Abstract
PURPOSE:To measure the transmission loss at the junction with good accuracy, by measuring the level of light in the tentative junction of optical fibers, performing measurement through removing the tentative junction, and finally measuring the light level with final connection to cancel the error. CONSTITUTION:The end of the first optical fiber OF1 and the beginning end of the second optical fiber OF2 are tentatively connected, the light source 1 is coupled to the beginning end of optical fiber and the level meter 21 is connected to the end to measure the light level transmitted via the tentative junction S'. Next, second optical fiber OF2 is cut off at the position spaced with a short length from the tentative junction S' and the level meter 22 is coupled. Further, the part including the tentative junction S' is cut off and the level of light is measured. Finally, the optical fibers OF1 and OF2 are jointed and measurement is made with the level meter 21. By cancelling the error from the result of measurement, the transmission loss at the junction of optical fiber can be measured with high accuracy.
