Abstract

PURPOSE:To form a cpd. of Al or Cr and a platinum group metal such as Pt, Rh or Pd on the surface of a Ni- or Co-base heat resistant alloy without mixing the elements in the alloy into the cpd. by coating Al or Cr onto the alloy surface; coating Pt, Rh or Pd; and heating the coated alloy. CONSTITUTION:Al or Cr is coated onto the surface of a Ni- or Co-base heat resistant alloy pref. by a pack method, forming an unstable cpd. contg. excess Al or Cr, e.g. Ni2Al3. A platinum group metal such as Pt, Rh or Pd is then coated and heated to form a cpd. of Al or Cr and the platinum group metal in an uppermost portion of the coated layer. This method is esp. applied to parts such as a gas turbine and a jet engine which are exposed to hot corrosive gas.
