Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a high performance carbonaceous sliding material excellent in loading resistance, wear resistance, and heat resistance by compounding a rare earth compound or mineral and an abrasive in a mixture of a carbonaceous material and a binder. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of a carbonaceous material (A), e.g., graphite, carbon black, etc., and a binder (B), e.g., tar, pitch, etc., is mixed with 2-20wt% a fluoride, silicate, phosphate, carbonate, or mineral ore of a rare earth element (C), e.g., cerium fluoride, cerite, etc., having a grain size of 50 microns or less, and 2- 20wt% an abrasive (D), e.g., alumina, quartz, etc., having a grain size of 50 microns or less, and then the mixture is melted and mixed at 100-300 deg.C, cooled, and then ground and molded.
