Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain metallurgical coke of good quality, by replacing part of the raw fine coal with pulverized briquetted coal in mixing briquetted coal with the fine coal to increase the charging density of the coal into a coke oven.
CONSTITUTION: Fine coal is mixed with a binder, e.g. coal pitch or road ter, and pressed to give a briquetted coal of grain size 20W100 mm. The coal is then pulverized to a particle size of preferably 1/7 or less that of the briquetted coal. The briquettes are mixed with the pulverized ones and raw fine coal to give a coke oven charging coal with a briquette content of 50W85%. The charging coal is carbonized to prepare coke.
