Abstract
PURPOSE: To simply regenerate adsorption beds consuming a little energy without using the processes of drying, thermal decomposition, and activation by using ozone to decompose ammoniacal nitrogen adsorbed within the adsorption beds into nitrogen gas and water.
CONSTITUTION: Aq. soln. contg. ammoniacal nitrogen is passed through zeolite adsorption beds to permit ammoniacal nitrogen to be adsorbed by the bed. Then, the same aq. soln. is passed through the bed together with aq. soln. contg. dissolved ozone. The ozone present in the liq. phase poured on the zeolite, while passing through the bed and penetrating it, is decomposed into O2 and active oxygen O+ called nascent oxygen, which decomposes ammoniacal nitrogen adsorbed in the bed into harmless N2 gas and H2O.
