Abstract

PURPOSE: To cheaply manufacture an R.Co5 type rare earth element cobalt permanent magnet alloy with superior magnetic characteristics by adding mischmetal to a base material and also adding a fixed quantity of mischmetal to an additive which is a rare earth element cobalt alloy in manufacture of the magnet alloy.
CONSTITUTION: Sm and Co of 99.9% purity and mischmetal of 99.5% purity are melted in an Ar gas atmosphere to cast a base material ingot of Sm0.80MM0.27Co5 (where MM is mischmetal) and an additive ingot of Sm0.48MM1.03Co5. The ingots are separately crushed to about 500μm diameter with stamp mills, weighed, mixed, and pulverized to about 2W4μm diameter with a vibration mill using org. solvent. The resulting powder is press molded in a magnetic field of 15000Oe or more, sintered at 1100°C in Ar gas, and heat treated at 860°C. Thus, a permanent magnet alloy with superior magnetic characteristcs is obtd cheaply.
