Abstract

PURPOSE:To raise the tenacity and wear resistance, by coating a nickel layer with another layer of at least one of tungsten and tungsten carbide and limiting the mean size of grains at 1mum or less. CONSTITUTION:A nickel layer containing 10-99% by weight of nickel is produced by evaporation on a tool member made of high-speed steel. The tool member is then treated with heat under an atmosphere of a mixed reacting gas comprising WCl6, CH3COOH, CH4 and Ar. After that, the tool member is cooled. As a result, a coating layer is produced on the inter mediate nickel layer. The tool member having the coating layer of high adhesive power on the surface is thus manufactured.
