Abstract
An elongate hollow body (10) of constant cross-section is formed by extension or casting and is cut to the required length of a gear housing. The body is formed with a bore (11) and another bore (14) is subsequently formed in it. The planes containing the axes of the bores are orthogonal but the axes do not intersect. The bores overlap and communicate with each other so that a gear can be mounted in each bore for intermeshing engagement. The housing is provided with longitudinally extending cooling flanges (12) and recesses (13) for accommodating bolts. <IMAGE>
