Abstract

PURPOSE: To attain the zero-track return of a magnetic disk unit by obtaining a signal invariably in proportion to a position by controlling a position signal, which has not any blind sector at a boundary between a data zone and guard band, by a microprocessor.
CONSTITUTION: Two tracks of a position signal are a data zone and following ones are a guard band. A microprocessor brings a head driver circuit under position control to stop a head at zero-cross point B of the negative-gradient part of the position signal on detection of guard band A. Next, tracks are moved to point C in a direction of the data zone and one-track movement is taken in the direction of the data zone to stop the head at zero-cross point D of the positive-gradient part of the position signal. This part is track "0" and the position signal has not any blind sector provided, so that the zero-cross return of the magnetic disk unit can accurately be servo-controlled.
