Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable groove width to be considerably increased and improve welding efficiency by revolving an eccentric electrode and controlling arc direction at the time of performing arc welding with a non-consumable electrode in the narrow groove part.
CONSTITUTION: The surface of a tungsten electrode 9 directing to the groove of the groove of the base metals 1, 1' to be welding is covered with an insulator and the end part thereof is formed in the eccentric position deviating from the axis of the electrode. This electrode 9 is mounted to a rotary torch 11 and is transmitted with the revolutions of a DC motor 14 by way of gears 12, 13, etc., thereby making revolution, stopping or alternate revolution motion in forward and backward directions. Since this revolution is accomplished about the electrode axis, the end part is able to deflect the arc in the narrow groove without fluctuating the electrode position while making revolution motion. The arc directs in the eccentric direction and is able to take penetration on both sides of the groove sufficiently large.
