Abstract
PURPOSE: A water-dispersible coating material for the interior of metallic containers, e.g. drink cans, having improved resistance to boiling water and chemicals, adhesivity to metals, and processability, and great safety without extractables, prepared by dispersing a specific copolyester neutralized with a basic substance in water.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A thermoplastic resin having terminal hydroxyl groups is esterified and polymerized with (B) a mixed compound having a polymericable unsaturated bond comprising a polymerizable unsaturated carboxylic acid or its anhydride. The resulting copolyester is neutralized with a basic substance and dispersed in water to give a coating material for the interior of metallic cans. For example, (A) is molten in a solvent in a concentration ≥60wt%, and reacted with (B) in the atmosphene of N2 at 140W160°C for 1W5hr. The esterification product is radically polymerized with the polymerizable unsaturated compound.
