Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain ferromagnetic powder with superior coercive force by heating a dispersion contg. a Co salt-contg. metal salt, an alkali and iron oxide magnetic powder after which the resulting Co-contg. iron oxide magnetic powder is washed with water, filtered, dispersed in water without drying, and heated.
CONSTITUTION: A dispersion is prepared contg. iron oxide magnetic powder such as γ-Fe2O3 powder, a metal salt contg. a Co salt such as cobalt chloride, and an alkali such as NaOH in an amt. of one equivalent or more to the amt. of the metal salt. This dispersion is held at as high a temp. as possible within the b.p. to form a Co-contg. iron oxide layer on the iron oxide magnetic powder. The resulting Co- contg. iron oxide magnetic powder is then well washed with water to remove the liquid reactant, filtered, immediately dispersed in water without drying, and heat treated at 60°C or above, pref. 80°CWthe b.p.
