Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide the subject inverter wherein a semiconductor amplifier and semiconductor laser are energized by a current pulse of a clock frequency synchronizing with the light pulse signal thereby to control two modes of oscillation and non-oscillation to obtain light output pulses. CONSTITUTION:A light input signal 5 injected in a semiconductor light amplifier 4 is directly amplified, and a light output signal 6 is obtained. A part 8 of the signal 6 is branched by use of a semi-transparent mirror 7, and converted into an electric signal 10 by use of a photodiode 9. A timing component 12 is extracted from a timing extraction circuit 11, and a driving current pulse 14 is produced by a current pulse generator 13 on the basis of the component 12, the thus produced pulse being applied to the amplifier 4. Since the amplifier 4 is energized by a current pulse having a clock frequency synchronizing with the signal, it acts as an amplifier only at the time when a current pulse is applied thereto, and therefore the width of light pulse is shaped. Oscillation and non-oscillation of a semiconductor laser 33 are controlled by a output light pulse 15, and the amplitude of a light output pulse 32 is shaped.
