Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform sound welding by secure arc start, without causing crater, by short-circuiting the base metal to be welded with electrode, passing a small current, striking an arc apart from the base metal to be welded and then passing regular welding current.
CONSTITUTION: By short-circuiting the tungsten electrode and the base metal to be welded, a small current of 50W80A not causing to melt down the electrode is passed. After detecting this circuit current, the torch is raised until the spacing between the tungsten electrode and the base metal to be welded is about 2mm, then an arc is struck. Afterwards, regular welding current is passed. Thus, arc can be started securely and easily without using high frequency current, and crater never occurs in the starting position.
