Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title high-purity compound useful as an oxygen transport carrier for artificial blood, by heat-treating a mixture of structural inomers of two perfluorocyclic ethers with anhydrous aluminum chloride.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture of a perfluoro(2-alkyl-tetrahydrofuran) of formula I (Rf is 1W8C straight or branched chain perfluoroaliphatic alkyl group) and a perfluoro(2-alkyltetrahydropyran) of formula II is reacted with an excess of anhydrous aluminum chloride (A) in the presence or absence of a solvent, e.g. carbon tetrachloride, at 150W170°C for 10W50hr to separate and purify the compound of formula I as a chlorine compound. Thus, the compound of formula II can be obtained readily in high purity from the mixture of compounds of formula I and II, which has not been easily separated, because only the compound of formula I reacts with (A).
