Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a simple light-wt. emergency breathing device by masking catalyst for decomposing an aq. soln. of hydrogen peroxide with a substance which doen not undergo the action of the soln. at ordinary temp. and melts at 50W120°C so that O2 is generated gradually.
CONSTITUTION: Rodlike hopcalite catalyst (a mixt. of copper oxide and manganese oxide) is madked with synthetic resin with a m.p. of 50W120°C and paraffin except an upper end small part. Masked catalyst 8 is dropped into aq. soln. 9 of hydrogen peroxide. Exposed active part 7 reacts with soln. 9 to generate O2 while dispersing in soln. 9. Reaction layer 10 is held at the upper part of soln. 9, the dispersed catalyst does not settle, and layer 10 is heated. A masking substance part contacting to layer 10 is eliminated to expose a fresh catalyst active surface, whereby decomposition reaction of soln. 9 takes place. Layer 10 lowers gradually, and an almost constant quantity of oxygen is supplied continuously.
