Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the title polymer having high quality, without eliminating the catalyst residue, by using a high activity polymerization catalyst prepared by treating a reaction product of a specific magnesium compound, a silicon compound and an alcohol, with a titanium halide.
CONSTITUTION: Ethylene is polymerized in the presence of a catalyst comprising (A) a solid product obtained by (1) reacting (a) a mixture of an inorganic compound having an Mg-O bond (excluding magnexium sulfate) and magnesium sulfate, with (b) a silicon halide or an organic compound of silicon, and (c) an alcohol such as ethanol, and (2) reacting the reaction product with (d) a titanium halide in the presence of a silicon halide, etc., and (B) an organic aluminum compound.
