Abstract
PURPOSE: To increase anolyte concentration with a simple means, slurry or solid alkali metal cholride is fed to a tower having anolyte rise-up pipe and liquid drain holes and is dissolved by rise-up anolyte to be circulated.
CONSTITUTION: An electrolytic bath 1 consists of anode chamber 2, cathode chamber 3, and porous diaphragm 4. The bath lid 9 is provided with an alkali metal feed tower 10 having an anolyte rise-up pipe 11 and soltuion drain holes 12, so that the pipe 11 and holes 12 are dipped in anolyte. Cl2 gas from anode causes liquid to be lifted up, permitting anolyte to pass through the pipe 11 into the tower 10, where the anolyte dissolves alkali metal salt slurry fed to the tower 10. The dissolved high concentration salt is circulated through the holes 12 into anolyte in the chamber 2 to increase anolyte concentration, thus effecting low voltage, high current electrolysis.
