Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce high purity strontium carbonate by heating a concentrate, together with sulfuric acid, obtd. by bubble flotation of finely crushed celestite, followed by reaction with soda ash.
CONSTITUTION: Ore celestite is finely crushed and subjected to bubble flotation by several times to remove impurities such as silica, alumina and iron oxide. The resulting concentrate is heated to 100W120°C together with sulfuric acid, e.g. of 50%, agitated, mixed with water, further agitated, and allowed to stand. Thus, a concentrate made of SrSO4 is settled, and silica base impurities are allowed to float as bubble floating matter, which is separated from the concentrate by decantation washing or the like. The settled concentrate is separation-recovered, washed with water, and heat-agitated together with soda ash to precipitation-separate SrCO3. This SrCO3 is roated at 300W700°C to remove Na cpds., allowed to cool, and washed with water to obtain high purity SrCO3.
