Abstract

PURPOSE: A water-containing gel for use as a poultice having water retention characteristics, flexibility, and self-bonding properties, consisting of a specific star shape block copolymer elastomer as a high polymer ingredient.
CONSTITUTION: A polystyrene-polyisoprene or polymethylstyrene-polysioprene star shape block copolymer elastomer is heated with an oil ingredient and disolved. An emulsifying agent and water are added to the resulting material to prepare a water in oil type emulsion, which is cooled to room temperature to give a water-containing gel for a poultice. The star shape block copolymer elastomer has a structure wherein at least three soft segments are placed radiately and hard segments are linked to the ends of soft segments respectively. Water retention characteristics rises with the increase of gel strength.
