Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a fiber with a slight reduction in adhesion on exposure to a high temperature in rubber, by applying an epoxy compound to a polyester fiber, and by bonding the heat-treated fiber with a specific resorcin-formaldehyde-rubber latex mixture.
CONSTITUTION: A polyester fiber is treated with a solution containing an epoxy compound, e.g. di-or triepoxide of glycerol, having two or more epoxy groups, in the spinning or drawing step, and heat-treated at 150W260°C. The resulting yarn, twisted cord or woven fabric is then treated with a resorcin-formaldehyde-rubber latex mixture containing (a) a blocked isocyanate, preferably polymethylenephenyl isocyanate blocked with ε-caprolactam, and (b) an epoxy resin, preferably a reaction product of novolak phenolic resin with epichlorohydrin.
