Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable to display characters directly on the key surface and to decrease power consumption, by providing a liquid crystal display element in the key.
CONSTITUTION: An upper glass substrae 7, upper electrode 8, liquid crystal substance 9, lower electrode 10, and lower glass substrate 11 form a liquid crystal display element, and the pattern is displayed with electric drive by wiring codes 12 and the pattern can be read in through a transparent key cover 6. Since liquid crystal is used for the display element, complicated characters and codes can be read in as the information and since unnecessary pattern can not be displayed, the read-in is not interferred. Further, the power consumption of liquid crystal is slight, enabling to form the key input unit less in the power consumption and no heating such as a lamp is caused.
