Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the fibrous structural body which is superior in strength, bulkiness and air permeability and is useful for adsorbents, filters, etc. by heat- treating the web-form material obtained by mixing fibrous active carbon having been made to short fibers and short fibers having latent curliness and carding the mixed fibers.
CONSTITUTION: Fibrous active carbon of about 10 to 120mm in fiber length and about 3 to 30μ in diameter made from polyacrylonitrile, cellulose, etc. and the fibers of about 15 to 150mm in fiber length and about 1.5 to 10 denier having latent shrink characteristic or latent crimp characteristic are mixed at ratios of about 1:1 to 10 based on weight and the mixted fibers are carded, whereby the web form material is obtained. This web form material is heat treated by steam, hot air, etc. to let the shrinkage characteristic or crimp characteristic of the fibers develop, whereby the bulkyl fibrous structural body is obtained.
