Abstract

PURPOSE:To automatically control time variable gains adequately in correspondence to various conditions by controlling the gain of a time variable gain amplifier according to the gain of the AGC which makes the receiving signal at a constant level. CONSTITUTION:The switch 27 of a time variable gain control signal generating circuit 30 closes and opens at the wave transmission and reception and the gain of a time variable gain control amplifier 22 is increased with time by the discharge voltage of a capacitor 25 decreasing with time according to the time constant determined by the capacitor 25 and resistance 26, whereby the amplification of the receiving pulses from a remote distance target, etc. is controlled. On the other hand, the AGC voltage from an automatic gain control signal generating circuit 40 for the AGC28 which adjusts the receiving pulses to a constant level irrespective of reflectances, etc. is applied to one end of the resistance 26, by which the final discharge voltage of the capacitor 25 is controlled and the amplifier 22 is controlled to the gain of less change with time or fixed gain for a target of a close distance or of a high reflectance, thus the proper time variable controlling is automatically accomplished and the first reflecting wave of a high level is discriminated even for the close distance target. In this way, the accurate ultrasonic measurement is accomplished.
