Abstract

PURPOSE:To lengthen the life of a paste type electrode plate by fixing pressingly electrode plate groups inserted in the direction of expansible portion in a battery jar provided with an expansible portion on its side wall alone or both its side wall and its bottom. CONSTITUTION:The expansible portion 1' of a corrugated form, etc., is provided at two faces facing each other of the side wall of the battery jar 1 into which the electrode plate groups 2 are inserted. And, the pressing plate 3 is provided on the outer surface of the side wall where the expansible portion 1' is not provided of the battery for 1 and then a pressure is applied to the pressing plate 3 from both sides by a compressor, whereupon the expansible portion 1' of the battery jar 1 is shrunk and the electrode plate groups 2 are pressed. When the pressure to the electrode plate groups 2 reached 20-100kg/dm<2>, the band 4 is laid from the side wall of the battery cell to the pressing plate and pressed and fixed the battery jar so as to keep the pressure on the electrode plate groups at a designated value. Then, the upper and lower parts of the battery jar 1 are sealed with the upper cover 5 and the lower cover 6 to complete a battery.
