Abstract
PURPOSE: To eliminate the need of separate oxidation equipment through enhanced absorbent utilization factor, prevention of gypsum scale deposition, and gypsum production in absorption equipment by a method wherein air is blown into the absorption equipment to make oxgen concentration in gas higher there than in waste gas itself.
CONSTITUTION: A waste gas having high content of SO2 is humidified and freed from dust in a cooling tower 2, then is guided into the first absorption tower 7 where the gas contacts, at pH 4, lime slurry reacted to some degree, supplied from the second absorption tower. Either fine bubble generator is installed in a liquid sump 11 or air is directly admitted to the inlet 11' of the absorption tower, so that oxygen concentration is increased in the tower to effect completion of absorbent reaction to produce gypsum. Part of slurry circulated from the tower 7 is passed through a settler 14 and a centrifugal separator 15 to recover the gypsum 16. Overflowed liquid 17' and filtered liquid 17 are sent to raw-lime-slurry control tank 19. Waste gas from the tower 7 enters the second absorption tower 8, where SO2 is removed by high-absorbent slurry of pH more than 6, supplied from the control tank 19, and is discharged.
