Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a printing plate support member excellent in the printing resistance and water retentivity while facilitating the printing work by electrolytically roughening the surface of an aluminum plate once mechanically roughened in a solution containing an electrolyte with the application of an alternating waveform current.
CONSTITUTION: First, the surface of an aluminum plate including pure aluminum plate and aluminum alloy plate is roughened by a mechanical surface roughening method such as brush graining. Then, the plate thus roughened undergoes an electrolytic roughening in a solution containing an electrolyte composed of chlorinic acid or nitric acid or the combination thereof with the application of an alternating waveform current in such a manner that the quantity of electricity is larger in the positive polarity than that in the negative polarity. This method provides a porous surface of complicated form through the electrolytic roughening treatment itself and combined with the sand roughness by the mechanical roughening, further complicates the porous surface yielding an excellent effect.
