Abstract
PURPOSE: To accomplish an accurate flaw detection with the flaw detector retained at a given distance from the surface of a pipe body by means of a spring member for supporting the weight of the flaw detector supporting frame and a guide roller contacting the surface of the pipe body mounted to the mount frame.
CONSTITUTION: A truck 3 is positioned at one end of a rail 4 while a parallel link mechanism 9 is rotated to have the flaw detector 25 stand by upward. Under such a condition, a pipe body is placed on a support roller 1 and with the parallel link mechanism 9 turned downward by a cylinder device 20 against the support force of a spring member 22, guide rollers 29a and 29b of the flaw detector mounting frame 10 are placed on one end of the pipe body M. As the flaw detector mounting frame 10 is supported with the parallel link mechanism 9, a constant attitude can be maintained regardless of the position thereof, upper or lower. Then, with the truck 3 travelling, flaw detectors 25 arranged in a circular arc detect flaws over the upper half surface of the pipe body M. With such an arrangement, a certain distance can be maintained between the detecting surface 25a of the detector 25 and the surface of the pipe body M.
