Abstract
PURPOSE: To make the brightnesses and tones of two observation systems equal by using the two observation systems and disposing a wavelength plate between the specimen and objective lens in such a manner that its axis assumes 45° to the incident face thereby producing an optical path difference of a halve wavelength between the both objective lenses.
CONSTITUTION: The 1st observation system containing an objective lens 1a and eyepiece lens 2a and the 1st lighting system containing a light source 3a and beam slitter 4a are provided and the 2nd observation system and lighting system symmetrical to these are provided. The optical axes of the both objective lenses 1a, 1b are made parallel by an auxiliary objective lens 9. Polarizers 6a, 6b and analyzers 7a, 7b are provided as the polarization directions shown and a λ/4 plate 8 is provided between the objective lens 1 and specimen surface 5 so as to assume 45° to the incident face. Of the lighting light passing through the polarizers 6, about 90% is reflected toward the specimen face and about 90% of the light reaching the beam splitters 4 by passing the λ/4 plate twice reaches the eyepiece lenses 2. In this way, the efficiency is extremely high and yet the brightnesses and tones of the visual field observed by the both eyes become equal.
