Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable inertia running by releasing a clutch directly connected with a torque converter on detection of a speed reduction by an acceleration detector in a device in which the control over the given clutch is made by opening and closing a solenoid valve used for controlling a lock-up shift valve.
CONSTITUTION: A road surface inclination detecting circuit 430 is composed of a circuit 431 detecting load conditions in running from each of the signals inputted from vehicle-speed and throttle-valve opening detecting circuits 410 and 420 and of a circuit 433 determining that the inclination of a road surface is either larger or smaller than the standard value by comparing the output of the circuit 431 with a signal on the vehicle speed converted into an acceleration by a differentiation circuit 432. The output of the detecting circuit 430 is inputted together with the output from a memory circuit 440 storing load data at the time of normal running of the vehicle into a load-data discriminating circuit 450, and the output from the circuit 450 is compared with the current running load on a slope in another discriminating circuit 460. The output of the circuit 460 controls a solenoid valve 390 for controlling a lock-up shift valve through an on/off decision circuit 480.
