Abstract
PURPOSE: To accomplish a simple, quick and accurate estimation of small amount of total sulfur component by detecting H2S with a flame photometric detector fully separated thereof from other components coexisting with a separating column after S compounds in the sample are converted into H2S in the hydrogen current using a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: H2 Containing no S component is sent in a fixed flow rate to a reaction tube 15 from a cylinder 1 through a flow regulator 6 and a humidifier 10. The reaction tube 15 is filled with a reducing catalyst such as Pt-Rh alloy or the like and heated in a heating furnace 14 up to 700W1,200°C. Sample is injected into the tube 15 through the inlet 12 from an automatic injector 13. Gaseous matter containing H2S generated is sent to a separating column 17 filled with a filler (e.g. Polabak Q) together with H2. In this manner, H2S coming after other components (e.g. methane and ethane) is sent to a flame photometric detector 18 with air sent from a compressor 2 through an air flow regulator 7. A filter having a transmission band of 394mμ in wavelength is used to detect the radiation during the burning of H2S to be recorded with a recorer 20 through the transmission line 19.
