Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a casting Al alloy with excellent tenacity even if Fe is contained as an impurity obtained by adding a specific amount of Si, Cu, Mn, Sb, moreover, Ti to Al.
CONSTITUTION: To a casting Al alloy containing Mg<1.5%, Fe; 0.4W1.5% as impurities, Si; 4.0W13.0%, Cu; 1.0W4.5%, Mn; 0.5W1.5%, Sb; 0.20W1.0% or, moreover, Ti<0.30% are added and alloyed. The strength and elongation of an Al-Si-Cu type or Al-Si-Cu-Mg type casting alloy containing above 0.5% of Fe are increasingly reduced, but, in this case, if the above described appropriate amount of Mn, Sb is added together, the shape of Al-Fe-Si compound crystalized out within a matrix phase is largely changed and dispersed as spherical or particulate fine compound to enhance the strength and elongation of Al alloy remarkably. Moreover, the addition of Ti has the effect to prevent a cast article from shrinkage and casting crack.
