Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound in high yields and in high selectivity for use as soil conditioners of a sprinkled rice paddy, a herbicide, and their synthetic intermediate, by subjecting diaminomaleonitrile and an acyl formadide as raw materials to condensation through ring closure.
CONSTITUTION: Diaminomaleonitrile and an acyle formamide, e.g., benzoyl formamide, shown by the formula I (R is phenyl, furyl, thienyl), preferably in equimolar amounts are subjected to condensation through ring closure in a solvent in the presence of an acid desirably not higher than 120°C to give the desired compound, e.g., 2,3-dicyano-5-hydroxy-6-phenylpyrazine, etc. shown by the formula II. Hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid and formic acid may be cited as the acid. The acid in amounts equimolar or more with the compound shown by the formula 1 is used, preferably in the form of 2W8 normal aqueous solution.
USE: A synthetic intermediate for 2,3-dicyano-5-n-propylamino-arylpyrazine-based herbicide, a herbicide available before and/or after germination.
