Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the title high Cr cast iron of a specific compsn. consisting of C, Si, Mn, Cr, and the balance Fe, which enables its hardening to be carried out by slow cooling from high temp.
CONSTITUTION: The cast iron consists of, by wt., C; 1.5W3.5%, Si; 0.3W3.0%, Mn; 2.0W7.0%, Cr; 8.0W30.0%, optionally Mo; 0.3W3.0%, and the balance Fe and usual impurities.
EFFECT: The cast iron is heated after casting to increase its hardness owing to martensite as well as to form secondary carbide, thus showing superior wear resistance. In other words, the low hardness as cast is of great advantage to working, and even if the cast iron is hardened by slow cooling after heating to 800W1100°C, sufficient precipitation of secondary carbide and martensite trensformation can be performed. It is also possible to harden the iron by quenching.
