Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a hydraulic cylinder construction in which the difference between the effective sectional areas of both chambers defined by a piston is minimized by constituting same such that a sectional area compensating rod provided at the opposite end wall of the housing is fitted into a hollow bore formed in the piston rod so that the difference between both sectional areas comes equal to the actual sectional area of the hollow rod.
CONSTITUTION: A piston 104 and a piston rod 105 are provided with a hollow bore 110 in which a sectional area compensating rod 111 mounted on an end wall 103 is fitted. An oil seal member 112 is provided on the inner periphery of the hollow bore section adjacent the piston 104 and prevents oil from leaking out along the rod 111. The difference between the effective sectional areas of both chambers 106, 107 relative to the piston 104 is coincident to the difference between the sectional areas of the rod 105 and the compensating rod 111 so that it coincides with the actual sectional area of material of the hollow rod 105. Accordingly, as the thickness t of the hollow rod is decreased, the difference in the sectional areas for the piston 104 can be decreased correspondingly.
