Abstract
PURPOSE: To preven the deposition of scale to the inner walls of a polymerization reactor in the polymerization of vinyl chloride in an aqueous medium, by adding a specific compound and an oily substance derived from mineral oils to the polymerization system, or by applying the above compounds to the surface of the inner walls and accesories of the reactor.
CONSTITUTION: (A) One or more compounds selected from an alkali metal salt of (4 or 5)-sulfo-3, 6-cis-endomethylene-tetrahydrophthalic acid monoalkyl ester, an alkali metal salt of sulfosuccinic acid monoalkyl ester, their hydroxy-substituted derivatives, and their alkyl-substituted derivatives (1 part by weight) is mixed with (B) an oily substance derived from mineral oils, having affinity with (A) compound and having a boiling point of ≥150°C 0.1W10 parts, and the mixture is emulsified in water to attain the concentration of the (B) compound of ≤20 wt%. The aqueous emulsion is applied to the surface of the inner walls and accesories of the polymerization reactor, in an amount of ≥0.001g/m2, or is added to the aqueous reaction medium in an amount of 3W500ppm, prior to the polymerization of vinyl monomer (and monomers copolymerizable therewith)
