Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent damaging in transparent vitrification process by constituting core and clad at an equal coefficient of thermal expansion of the constituting glasses. CONSTITUTION:A core 10 is constituted by SiO2-B2O3-GeO2 base glass and a clad 20 by SiO2-B2O3 base glass and the sum of the mol% number of the B2O3 and GeO2 in the core 10 and the mol% number of the B2O3 in the clad 20 are made equal. Then, the coefficients of thermal expansion of the core 10 and clad 20 become nearly equal, and at the time of producing the fiber parent material of core-clad type for optical communication, the glass damaging in transparent vitrification process may be prevented.
