Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the activity and selectivity of Pd catalyst for the selective hydrogenation of acetylene compounds existing in olefin compounds as impurities, by supporting the catalyst to a specific carrier.
CONSTITUTION: Acetylene compounds existing in olefin compounds (e.g. ethylene, propylene, etc. prepared by the thermal cracking of naphtha, natural gas, etc.) are converted to olefins by the catalytic hydrogenation in the presence of a catalyst comprising Pd supported on a carrier obtained by the heat treatment of α-alumina coated with an alumina precursor at 400W700°C. The alumina precursor is pref. aluminum nitrate, aluminum chloride, etc., and the amount is 0.1W3 wt.% (as alumina) based on the α-alumina. The molar ratio of H2 to the acetylene compounds is 1W5 to 1.
