Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent an erroneous discharge by leading out the electrode of the discharge cell at the edge of a shift channel separately from and independently of a bus.
CONSTITUTION: In the shift channel constituted in a meander electrode arrangement, the electrode constitued in cell d4 at the edge in the shift direction is led to the bus X side. Electrode X24 is common to cell d4 and cell C4 adjacent to cell d4, and they are led out independently to terminal Xe separately from belonging bus X2. By this constitution, spot erasing can be performed without influences on close cells by applying the erasing operation only to cells d4 and C4 during the time, when D and C-chase cell groups belonging to the same group as cells d4 and C4 are driven, because the erase time for cells under electrode X24 can be selected arbitrarily. Thus, the erroneous discharge generated by an excessive erase discharge of the cell at the edge is erased by cells corresponding to independent electrodes, so that the display quality can be improved.
