Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the response lag of an air fuel ratio detector, by providing two comparators for detecting the output condition of the air fuel ratio detector and by shifting the detection point for the change in the air fuel ratio from an excessively thick state to a thin state or the change in the air fuel ratio vice versa.
CONSTITUTION: When an engine is started for warming-up, a temperature detector 30 is open and a transistor 152 of a power supply circuit 150 is closed. At that time, a negative pressure switching valve VSV20 is opened to introduce secondary air into a ternary catalyst. When the temperature detector 40 is closed after the warming-up, the valve VSV20 is driven depending on a signal from the air fuel ratio detector 10. When the air fuel ratio of an exhaust system changes from the thin state to the excessively thick state, the output level of an FF circuit 130 is zero and the valve VSV20 is closed while the air fuel ratio is in the thin state. When the output of the air fuel ratio detector 10 thereafter exceeds a reference voltage of a second comparator circuit 120, the output level of the FF circuit 130 is inverted and the valve VSV20 is opened.
