Abstract

PURPOSE: To raise impact strength by making heat treatment with power source for heat treatment by providing a low voltage and high current AC power source for heat treatment in addition to power source for arc welding and also by providing a switching means to perform the switching of current flowing in clamp meahcnism from both power sources between the power source and the clamp mechanism.
CONSTITUTION: The metals 30 and 31 to be welded are closely contacted at the junction 32 by means of the compressive force P1. When the switch 6a of the switching means 6 is set to ON and also the switch 6b is set to OFF, the current I1 from the arc power source 1 for welding goes into the clamp mechanism 3 through the clamp mechanism 2, the metal 30 to be welded, the junctiin 32, and the metal 31 to be welded. The metals 30 and 31 are separated from each other to generate arc. Upon connecting, the switch 6a becomes OFF and also the switch 6b becomes ON, whereby heat is produced at the junction 32 by large current from the power source 5 for heat treatment and then gradual cooling is made. Thus, highly reliable weld suitable for parts requiring high impact strength can be obtained.
