Abstract

PURPOSE: A biodegradable fiber that is composed of a copolymer containing alternately low-molecular aliphatic polyester blocks and low-molecular aliphatic polyamide blocks and can be degraded by enzymes existing over wide range of nature as lipase.
CONSTITUTION: An alternating block copolymer from (A) polyester blocks of formula I [X is residue of aliphatic ester from aliphatic alcohol and aliphatic carboxylic ester and expressed as R1OOCR2(R1 is 2W20C alkylene; R2 is 0W12C alkylene) or R3 of 1W5C alkylene; n is usually an integer of 1W50] and (B) polyamide blocks of formula II [Y is residue of aliphatic amide from aliphatic carboxylic acid and aliphatic amine and can be expressed as R4NHCOR5(R4 is 0W 12C alkylene; R5 is 0W12C alkylene) or R6 of 1W12C alkylene; m is an integer of 1W25] is melt spun to form title fibers.
