Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a dielectric material, which comprises a mixed crystal of BaNb2O6 and Ba5Nb4O15 whereby the dielectric constant may be increased, the loss of the dielectric substance may be reduced, and the thermal stability of the dielectric constant may be improved.
CONSTITUTION: The present dielectric material has a composition formula: (BaO)x(Nb2O5)1-x wherein 1/2≤x≤5/7. The dielectric material of oxide is a mixed crystal of a compound of the formula BaNb2O6, wherein x=1/2, having a positive thermal factor of dielectric constant, the crystal system of which belongs to an orthorhombic system, and a compound of the formula Ba5Nb4O15, wherein x=5/7, having a negative thermal factor of dielectric constant, the crystal system of which belongs to a hexagonal system. For example, desired amounts of BaCO3 and Nb2O5 are weighed, mixed in a ball mill, and calcined provisionally at 900°C for 4 hours. The calcined material is then molded and further calcined fully at 1300 to 1330°C for 2 hours to obtain the present dielectric material of oxide. The present dielectric material of oxide is useful as a material for microwave dielectric resonators and as a material for temperature compensated porcelain condensers.
